Described as "the single most talented person in the world for cardiac MR", Dr. Raman is the leader of the medical research that Ballou Skies supports. Now, we have the exciting opportunity to watch Dr. Raman present some of her findings from all of her cardiac research via her presentation Resonance in Cardiovascular Medicine and Research at Ohio State University. It is always exciting to hear directly from Dr. Raman about this groundbreaking research and now everyone can enjoy it!
Dr. Raman presented her work during Grand Rounds at Ohio State University last month. For her presentation on her heart research, Raman received the Warren Lectureship Award.
Her entire presentation is available online through Ohio State's website. View it here.
The beginning of the video is a wonderful tribute to Dr. Raman's accomplishments and proves what great hands Ballou Skies is in by partnering with Dr. Raman. If you'd like to watch the portion of her presentation that highlights Dr. Raman's Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research and work with Ballou Skies, skip ahead to 30 minutes in the video player.
Well summer is on its last legs and fall is on the way. While the humidity has been out of control, I have been thoroughly enjoying the warm temperatures. My sore, weak muscles work a lot better when I am warm. However, no matter how much I don’t want the seasons to change, summer will eventually surrender to fall. Time marches on regardless of our deepest hopes and wishes. Now while we can’t control the ceaseless forward motion of time, we can maybe help to control how much time a person has on this never-ending timeline.
This has been the main goal of Ballou Skies since it was formed. We have been aggressively pushing forward groundbreaking, possibly life prolonging, medical research to wage war against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and its devastating effects on the human body.
Family is everything. No matter the obstacles you face, your family is the one constant variable in the ever changing landscape of life. I want to tell you about an awesome person that I am lucky to be able to call family. My cousin Claire.
We used to live near each other when I lived in the Chicago area way back when. However, through the circumstances of life Claire stayed in Chicago and my parents and I ended up in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, we do not get to see each other very often. The long distance between us did not stop her from helping Ballou Skies. Over the past two years Claire and a group of her amazing friends have participated in the Chicago Triathlon and numerous other events to help spread awareness and raise funds for Ballou Skies. These great individuals, that I have never met, have taken up the cause and given their time to join Ballou Skies in our never ending battle for better treatments for DMD sufferers.
Well folks the summer is winding down and I am none too happy about the prospect of cooler temperatures and the never ending onslaught of pumpkin flavored everything that bombards everyone this time of year. But enough about my feelings on the fall season...
Summer is a great time for family, fun, and the good old outdoors. This is why we hold our annual Ballou Skies Healthy Hearts Walk during this amazing time of year here in western Pennsylvania. On August 16th, at North Park, familiar faces and some new ones gathered to help support the Ballou Skies mission. I know I say this almost every update, but without the kind individuals that showed up to attend the walk all of our hard work would have been in vain.
The weather is finally amazing and summer is almost here! This is my favorite time of year and I cannot wait for the long days that summer brings.
It is also a great time because our Ballou Skies Healthy Hearts Walk is at the end of summer. We always spend the months leading up to the event running around trying to get everything prepared for another successful fundraising event. I am hoping for another great year of the walk and hope that everyone can join us in August at North Park for the event.
Recently I went to Ohio State for one of my biannual neurology appointments a couple weeks ago. Apart from some back pain I’ve been experiencing, I look and feel pretty good. After our regular appointment we were asked by OSU to sit down and talk about the charity and the impact it has had. It was a great experience to let others know what their support means to my family and I. We also got a chance to see our favorite doctor, Dr. Raman and talk to her for a couple minutes. In the coming months I am sure we will be posting the interview on our site for everyone to see. So stay tuned for that and other updates over the summer months.
Get out and enjoy the sunshine everyone! And be sure to enjoy a fun time at a beautiful park in August for our Healthy Hearts walk. Also, in our next update I will tell all of you about how my cousin and her friends are helping BallouSkies by fundraising for us in Chicago! Be kind to one another, enjoy every moment, and be happy. Until next time my friends.
I hope by now most of you have at least begun your Christmas shopping. No matter how good your intentions may be, getting gifts usually turns into a race to the finish line. It is hard to always find the time to get that perfect gift for the ones you care about. Rest assured that on Christmas Day when you are with your families that the greatest gift you will receive that day is sharing your life with these people.
I recently had an appointment at Ohio State University this past week. My father and I got up at the crack of dawn and made the 3 hour trip to see our favorite doctor, Dr. Raman.
The air is clean and crisp this time of year. The cool breeze hits you in the face with a refreshing quality. The air feels cold, but it does not possess the stinging bite of the temperatures that winter brings. The leaves are falling to the ground, devoid of their green color and the life that color represents. As nature winds down and prepares for the cyclical change of the seasons, we prepare for another year of possibilities. I love this time of year and I am excited for the opportunity to gather with my family and be thankful for all that I have in life.
School is back in session and the summer is coming to an end. I am sad that fall is right around the corner, and the temperature will slowly begin to get colder. However, I am also happy after every summer comes to a close. This happiness comes from another successful Summer fund raising season.
We held our annual walk and our annual bike ride over the summer. Both events were a great time and valuable funds were raised to continue our mission to help battle MD head on.
Hello all! I hope you all are well and enjoying the warmer weather. The worst is behind us and summer will be here before we know it.
The BallouSkies team has been busy planning our summer events and is very excited for this time of year! This update I want to talk about what having MD and helping others thru BallouSkies means to me. The only good thing that has come with all this rain lately is the fact that I have had tons of time to think about things. Introspection is healthy for everyone to assess their own lives.
