As a child I actively participated in grade school
sports
(football, baseball, and basketball). In High
School I was a letterman in football and track. Then in
college I played football for
Duquesne
University. After college
I began pumping iron and competed in a few ANBC natural
bodybuilding competitions. In 1996 I began a long and
disappointing break from physical activity, but in 2004
after changing my eating habits and losing a substantial
amount of weight I began running and mountain biking. It
wasn’t until October of 2005 that I got the crazy notion
that if I learn how to swim I could try a triathlon. So I
joined the Sewickley YMCA Masters Swim Team and worked very
hard at lap swimming. My first triathlon was a sprint
distance in 2006 and was very shocked to have finished 2nd
in my age group. Since that day I have been hooked on the
sport. To date, I’ve completed 5 Sprints, 2 Olympics, 5 Half
Ironmans, and a 2 Ironmans. My favorite races are the Sprint
and Half Iron distances. I am thankful to have the chance to
be part of Ballou Skies, and race for something more
satisfying.
