My first athletic goal was to beat my Dad in the Pittsburgh Great Race 10K when I was in sixth grade. I did not beat him that year, but that is what started it all! After running competitively at Edinboro University, I decided to challenge myself by signing up for a triathlon. My first race was the Presque Isle Triathlon in 2004. The swim portion of the race was held in Lake Erie, and luckily the water was shallow enough so that I could stop and walk throughout the swim! I even used a ten year old mountain bike to ride the road course! Of course the run was the only part that felt right, nevertheless, I was hooked. I joined the masters swim team at the Sewickley YMCA, upgraded some gear, and began training. I finished Ironman Lake Placid in 2009, and plan on racing it again this year. My goal is to not only become the strongest triathlete that I can be, but it is also to race for the awareness of the people that cannot swim, bike and run.
