I guess it all started in third grade with the gym class
timed one mile run. I really wanted to finish first but always got beat by one of my good friends at the time and that gave me a taste for competition and pushing yourself. Always outside, always running or biking, I was usually the last one of my friends to make it home for dinner. In middle and high school I took up running both cross country and track but really fell in love with the half mile and one mile on the track. Took up mountain biking during the Michigan summers and then a good friend gave me a used road bike. A few years later in college I was racing around as a Cat 3 (still on the same bike) and having fun. It wasn’t until after college that a couple of friends signed up for the Tupper Lake Tinman half-Ironman triathlon in June 2008. I guess the peer pressure got to me and I signed up on the spot without really knowing how to swim. I managed to come in second in my age group and was hooked even though I had so much to learn! A year later I took the plunge and completed my first Ironman, which really opened my eyes to the sport and how powerful it can be to not only the athlete but to those around you. I love racing and have so far completed 1 sprint, 6 Olympic, 9 half Ironmans and two Ironmans. I look forward to every day to continue to work hard to make myself a better person and athlete. Being a part of the Ballou Skies team is a true honor as we all race not just for ourselves but for something more and I look forward to proudly displaying the Ballou Skies colors at all my races this year!
